With over thirty years of educational leadership and social work experience, ABC’s Of Life, Inc., was established in December, 1996. The foundation of the organization was established by three therapists, who expressed genuine concern that with the merger of the only free standing run away shelter (The Family Link) within 300 miles of the Memphis area, there would no longer be a non-partisan place for youth and their family to go to get the assistance needed to navigate through a broken system, as well as have a safe haven. 

Since the inception, the foundation has continued to provide people with mental, physical, and behavior health needs access to individualized solutions through the use of the wrap around process and home based services where interventions/ services can be provided to the families within their homes. This process allots individual self-actualization and allows for the family voice and choice to be heard. These evidence based life-changing solutions and continuum of services assist each individual and family to believe in their abilities and reach their personal goals to learn, work, and live an independent and productive life. 

The organization remains committed to making a positive impact on the alarming infant mortality and poverty rate of Shelby County and surrounding areas through providing excellent services and professional workshops to mid-south area nonprofit organizations, state and local government entities, higher education institutions, collegiate athletic programs, faith based organizations, and is an official vendor/s

service provider of the Shelby County (TN) and Desoto County (MS) school districts. 

The ABC’s needs assessments series (2013) and outreach services revealed an alarming increase in risk factors impacting the overall success of marginalized populations reared in low income homes. To alleviate the impact of these barriers, a comprehensive approach theoretically grounded in human development models emphasizing individual strengths, academic excellence, healthy living and career readiness was designed. Coupled with the assessment findings as well as the educational and personal experience of the initiatives’ Co-Founders, The Talented Tenth Initiative was formed in 2014. Since the inception, the program has sustained over a 95% graduation and post-secondary enrollment rate for program participants.
